A four-member EIO delegation had a working visit to the Ghanaian Public Records and Achieves Administration Department (PRAAD) in early October 2011. Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by Mr. Felix Nyarko Ampong, PRAAD’s AG. Director.

The delegation comprising members from the Freedom of Information Directorate and one from the Investigation and Maladministration Prevention was briefed on the historical background and establishment of PRAAD, Achieves and Records Management Framework of Ghana, Records Management and Registry Practices, and Repository among others.

The delegation was able to share experiences particularly on the management of records from creation to disposal and the overall records management system in different government offices.

The delegation also met and discussed with Ghanaian government officials on issues related to the Freedom of Information Law. The management of records is a determining factor for the implementation of FOI law.

Ethiopia passed law on the Freedom of Information on Article 590/2008. The law gives EIO mandate to oversee the implementation of the right to Access to Information nationally.
